“Some
Lessons Are Better Caught Than Taught”
FIRST LESSON Proverbs 31:10-11, 20-31
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth
far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing
of value…
She opens her arms to the poor and extends her
hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all
of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed
in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he
takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them, and
supplies the merchants with sashes. She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful
instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and
does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her
husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you
surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a
woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and
let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
EPISTLE LESSON Revelation 21:10-14, 22-23
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain
great and high, and showed me the
I did not see a temple in the city, because the
Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The
city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God
gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
GOSPEL LESSON John 14:23-29
Jesus replied, "If anyone
loves Me, he will obey My teaching. My Father will
love him, and We will come to him and make Our home
with him. He who does not love Me will not obey My
teaching. These words you hear are not My own; they
belong to the Father who sent Me.
"All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the
Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,
will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not
give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not
be afraid.
"You heard Me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If
you loved Me, you would be glad that I am going to the
Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
