The First Sunday in Lent
February 25, 2007 9:00am
Thank You for sharing this time of worship with
us. We're glad you're here! Please sign the Friendship Register. Do come
again! If you do not have a local church
home, we invite you to make your home with us.
Here you will find Christian love, opportunities for spiritual growth,
warm friendships, and a feeling of being part of the family of God.
The
Offering And The Friendship Register: The members of Mt. Olive congregation have
joined together to do the Lord's work in this city and around the world. Visitors, please do
not feel obligated to participate in this offering that supports our church's
ministry. During the gathering of the offering, however, we kindly ask each
person to fill out the friendship register that is located at the end of your
bench. Please use this time also to
greet those sitting near you. Thanks!

Today
Is Christian Education Sunday at Mt. Olive! We
thank Pastor Aaron Robinson from St. Croix Lutheran High School for leading us in worship, and the SCLHS
Croixaliers for offering up to the Lord their special service titled “God
Is – I Am.”
Following our worship service, Mr. Jim Pasbrig
will lead the Adult Education Hour, sharing with us the challenges and
blessings of Christian education in the home and throughout life. Then comes a delicious, tasty, mouth-watering
potluck dinner! All are invited to stay
and enjoy Christian fellowship and a wonderful meal! After the meal, you’ll hear “Start your
engines,” signaling the beginning of our 7th annual Mt. Olive Minute
Pinewood Derby Race. Enjoy the day!
A
Door Offering will be received at the close of this morning’s worship service to help
fund the ministry of the Croixaliers.
Thank you for your support!
Lenten Worship This Wednesday: The
evening begins at 5:30pm with a delicious Lenten supper served by
the Cedar Limb. Everyone is invited! Our worship service starts at 6:30pm.
This year’s worship theme is “Behold the Hidden Glory of the
Cross,” and Pastor Norb Meier will preach
using the theme, “It is Hidden in the Savior’s
Solitude.” Our Wednesday evening
Lenten suppers and worship services have been well attended in previous
years. If you have not participated in
the past, we’re praying that you will this year. The time is early enough that even families
with small children can be involved. Plan to attend!
The New Issue Of “Meditations”
Is Now Available in the tract rack in the back of church. This new booklet contains daily devotions for
March 4 through June 2, 2007. You are encouraged to take a copy home today
and use it for your every-day devotional time.
There is also a suggested Bible reading for each day of the week.

Women’s
Guild Work Night (Men also
encouraged to attend!) The
annual work night will be held this Thursday, March 1, 2007. Pam Folkens and
Linda Petersen will have several projects available for every skill level. They
are planning to take several finished items to Peru with them in April. All materials will be
provided, but please bring along a pair of sharp scissors if you have them. We
will begin at 5:30pm with
a light supper furnished by Pam and Linda, followed by craft projects, and
finishing off the evening with dessert. If
you cannot attend the work night but would like to contribute to this mission
work, monetary donations are always appreciated. A freewill donation will be accepted at the
work night also. We have a list of items that Terry and Mary could use in their
work, including a digital camera, and would like to take them as many as
possible. In order to plan for the
meal, please sign up on the sheet provided in the narthex.
The 2007 Church Ministry Workshop will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine
this Saturday, March 3rd, beginning at 9:00am. A
list of exciting and stimulating workshops is available in the back of
church. Registration (including a great
lunch!) is only $15. Please sign up on
the sheet on the narthex bulletin board today.
Connect Youth Ministries of Bloomington Lutheran Church is hosting a benefit concert for Tim Helman. Tim is a
member at Bloomington Lutheran as well as an established Christian
musician. He is a close friend of Terry
Schultz and has used his musical gifts here at Mt. Olive on a couple of occasions. About a year ago, Tim was diagnosed with a
very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. By God’s grace through extensive and
costly treatments he was declared cancer free.
He was feeling fine for several weeks, but slowly the same symptoms
began to reappear. In January doctors
found that his cancer had returned and they found new spots on his brain. Tim hasn’t been able to work for several
months. His wife is a stay-at-home mom
to their two young children, and financially things are getting pretty
tough. Medical bills continue to pile
up, as do the costly and drastic treatments needed to battle such an aggressive
form of cancer. The benefit concert will
be held on Friday, March 7th, beginning at 7:30pm, at Bloomington Lutheran Church, and will feature Jason Gray who recently
signed a national recording contract with Centricity Records. He has toured extensively around the country,
with the likes of Sara Groves, and has been featured in several Christian music
industry magazines. As a good friend of
Tim’s he is headlining the evening concert.
With his acoustic folk-rock and fantastic stories and testimony, he will
no doubt give a performance that you won’t soon forget. Also in concert is Koine’, the “house band” of St. Marcus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. They
too are friends of Tim and are honored to be a part of the benefit. Their style is unique as they take both old
and new well-loved hymns and put their own bluegrass/Dixie twist on them. They are an outstanding band that will get
the crowd’s toes tapping. Concert
tickets are only $7.00 ($10.00 at the door).
Please sign up today in the back of church.
Auction
Time – Saturday, March 10th! Break out that top hat and tails
as we’re “Puttin’ On the Glitz” at
this year’s St. Croix Lutheran High School auction. Actually, black tie attire is not
required, but your presence is! Every
year a group of enthusiastic volunteers put together a spectacular silent and
live auction event. With donations from congregational members, as well as
local businesses, there is an offering of items that range from the everyday to
the magnificent! While there never seems to be a lack of items up-for-bid,
there is sometimes a lack of bidders to
bid!!! If you have never been to a SCLHS
auction, you have really missed out. Those auction enthusiasts who make the
annual pilgrimage to West St. Paul will vouch for the fact that a good time is always had by all attendees. Whether you bid on the silent auction,
get into the fast-moving pace of the live auction, purchase from the pre-priced
area, or simply go for the fun, food, and fellowship, you will have a great
time and wonder why you never went before. If you have any questions about
auction-day, please see Linda or Lee Petersen.
The Twin Cities Chapter of WELS Kingdom Workers invites you to
join us for the second annual Festival of Foods, Saturday March 10, from 5-7 pm. The festival will feature dishes from the
many different nationalities that are served by our mission efforts here in the
Twin Cities including Chinese, Japanese, Hispanic, Hmong,
African American, and of course, German and Scandinavian. Please join us
to learn more about what WELS Kingdom Workers does to help spread the Gospel in
our community. The event will be held at Richard Green Elementary, 3400 4th Ave So, Minneapolis. Hope to
see you there!
